Thomas Dale & Associates (TDA) just released a study, concluding that Puerto Vallarta is one of the safest tourist destinations for international and national tourists.
The Puerto Vallarta Tourism Board appointed TDA, a global investigative and security firm who lists several Fortune 100 companies amongst its clients, to complete a Security/Threat assessment.
The international security company visited the destination from April 6-13 to conduct interviews and a thorough assessment on the ground, and based on findings develop a comprehensive report in relation to all aspects of tourist security in the destination.
TDA individually interviewed domestic as well as international tourists, American and Canadian Consuls, retired ex-pats, time-share members, part-time residents, seasonal boaters, business owners, hospital administrators, gay community business representatives, health insurance professionals, cabbies, conventioneers and honeymooners.
The interviews were followed up by requests to local law enforcement sources for crime data and department deployment. The Civil Protection Department (FIMA) was also consulted regarding natural disasters.
The interviews focused on the following three areas; safety in Puerto Vallarta and the perception of its visitors; personal experiences and the U.S. Travel Warning to Mexico.
The study found that the number of negative events involving foreigners or non-foreigners is fractional compared to the large ex-pat resident population and the millions of visitors that come to vacation each year in Puerto Vallarta.
Overall the study found that visitors to the destination feel safe and continue to visit Puerto Vallarta numerous times through their lifetime and that the destination’s support services are well above the average standards and dedicated to serving the visiting public.
In relations to the drug wars, TDA found that the limited land transit makes the smuggling of guns and drugs through Puerto Vallarta very difficult and thus a non-issue in the destination.

Mexico tourism chief blasts 'ludicrous' travel warnings
Warnings from the state of Texas to Americans about travel to Mexico are "ludicrous," "misinformed," and may damage the country's safest tourist destinations, according to Mexico's tourism chief.
Rodolfo Lopez Negrete, chief operating officer of Mexico's Board of Tourism, made the point during a visit to the Texas capital of Austin. It is the second time he has met with Texas officials this year on the topic.
At issue are warnings in January and March against Texans travelling to Mexico during holidays and the heavy college student travel period of Spring Break.
A statement issued by state public safety chief Steve McCraw on March 1 said resorts such as Acapulco and Cancun were havens of violence, and warned that students could be caught in the crossfire of indiscriminate drug violence.
"Our safety message is simple: avoid traveling to Mexico during Spring Break and stay alive," the Texas warning read.
The goal of the meeting this week was to convince Texas to limit such warnings only to the dangerous parts of Mexico and come up with a system for keeping state officials more up-to-date on the situation in Mexico, Lopez Negrete said.
"We recognize that there are certain destinations in Mexico, particularly at the border, that we would not recommend Americans go on vacations, or Mexicans for that matter," Lopez Negrete told Reuters. "This violence that has been in Ciudad Juarez - Cancun is almost 2092 km away."
"Obviously, you're not going to stop going to Dallas because there's a problem in New York," he added.
Ciudad Juarez is the most dangerous city in Mexico and sits just across the border from El Paso, Texas.
Texas public safety officials declined comment on Wednesday.
High profile violence has marred the image of Mexico's large tourist centres in recent months. In Acapulco the murder of several women in April and the killing of a former prison official in May drew international headlines. But the majority of violence tends to happen outside the tourist areas.
Travel to Mexico fell when the recession hit in 2008, and has been recovering ever since. It is difficult to separate the recession effect from the impact of the violence.
More than 37,000 people have been killed in Mexico since late 2006 when President Felipe Calderon took office and sent the armed forces to crush powerful drug cartels battling for lucrative smuggling routes to the United States.
A recent State Department advisory said that 111 Americans were reported murdered in Mexico last year, up from 35 in 2007.
Mexican tourism officials acknowledge that shootings, kidnappings and beheadings are the reality in some parts of Mexico, but said they are not a threat to popular resorts like the Riviera Maya and Los Cabos. The warnings should reflect that difference, Lopez Negrete said.
Lopez Negrete and industry officials said they want Texas officials to know that popular destinations such as Puerto Vallarta and La Paz, Baja California Sur, are "perfectly safe."
The stakes are high for Mexico. Some 60 per cent of tourists who fly into Mexico are Americans, and a third of them either live in or fly through Texas, Lopez Negrete said.
Some 22 million tourists visit Mexico each year, Lopez Negrete said. It's the No. 1 destination for vacationing Americans outside the U.S, he said.
Lopez Negrete said he also wants to work with the US Department of State on federal government warnings that he said are too general.

Brasil inspecciona los Juegos - Panemericanos 2011
Durante cinco días, brasileños recorren instalaciones panamericanas
Una delegación del Comité Olímpico de Brasil encabezada por Bernard Rajzman, Jefe de Misión, supervisa las instalaciones en la sede y subsedes de la justa continental. El dirigente deportivo y representantes de 10 confederaciones brasileñas se reunirán con los responsables de diversas áreas del Comité Organizador de los XVI Juegos Panamericanos y Parapanamericanos Guadalajara 2011.
El grupo de 20 personas que integra la comisión brasileña, inició la gira en el municipio de Puerto Vallarta en el Pacífico mexicano, subsede de la Fiesta de América y que albergará los deportes de vela, triatlón, aguas abiertas y voleibol de playa en distintas instalaciones de la ciudad portuaria. Las instalaciones serán adecuadas como escenarios deportivos temporales, tal es el caso de la Terminal Marítima, el Vallarta Yacht Club, el malecón y algunas otros puntos en playas del destino turístico.
De acuerdo a lo informado por el Subdirector de Relaciones Internacionales y Públicas, Orlando Ramos Guerrero, los brasileños incluyeron en su itinerario el Estadio Omnilife, Estadio Telmex de Atletismo, Gimnasio San Rafael, Code Paradero, Code San Nicolás y la Unidad Deportiva Manuel Ávila Camacho, el Guadalajara Country Club y el Club Hípica en la capital jalisciense.
También constatarán los avances en la construcción de la Villa Panamericana y posteriormente viajarán a los municipios subsedes, Ciudad Guzmán y Tapalpa para conocer las instalaciones de remo y canotaje y ciclismo de montaña.
Varias reuniones de trabajo con diversas áreas operativas del Comité Organizador de los Panamericanos y Parapanamericanos Guadalajara 2011, específicamente el área técnica, de trasporte, logística, tecnología e internacional, entre otras forman parte de la agenda de los sudamericanos.
La inspección de la delegación sudamericana concluye el día 10 de junio.

Welcome to June, Summer Springs to Life as Tourism Turns Up the Heat

Welcome to June amigos. It’s an interesting month for Puerto Vallarta as tourism picks up as the kids escape for summer vacation. Along with the early summer months comes a gradual increase in the humidity along with the temperatures. Remember folks this is a tropical region and the Seasonal Rains will be a daily occurrence reviving the local Jungles alive with vegetation. While this may seem like a negative, the locals look at the rains as a blessing. Magically, the liquid life raining down from the heavens cleans the city leaving it fresh and inviting. For those looking for a summer walk in the rain, feel free to let loose. Be prepared to be casual, warm weather clothing in Puerto Vallarta is never much more than a bathing suit, flip flops and cool T-Shirt.
Watching the Rainstorms or just Spectacular Sunsets from El Faro Bar at the top of the light house in Marina Vallarta is a great place to share a drink and listen to some live music on Puerto Vallartas other Malecon. Or visit any of the 15 restaurants on the boardwalk under protective cover as you stroll exploring.
Visiting the Malicon in El Centro is always a popular location with restaurants and bars overlooking the Bay of Banderas. Or the Flea Market with that unexpected treasure that you just have to have. Sports Bars, Ice cream Parlors, Tropical Breezes and shopping of all kinds are waiting for you in El Centro.
As we get deeper into June we will see the Marlin come back in larger numbers. Soon Puerto Vallarta will see the annual return of Sportsmen looking to catch a Giant 200 lb. Yellowfin Tuna, Huge Black and Blue Marlin, Sailfish and of course Mahi Mahi!
